Baby Girl Dress

For my grand-daughter's birthday I made her this dress. I used fabric from the Riley Blake "apple of my eye" collection. It is a little challenging sewing for the grand-kids without having them near to check sizing. This little dress turned out to be good in length, but was too big around. The next time I make it I will narrow up the width. The dress is fully lined so it could be reversible if you sewed buttons on both sides.

Every little dress needs matching bloomers so I followed this tutorial and added 3 rows of ruffles. The ruffles were easy to make. I followed these guidelines but hemmed all edges by turning up 1/4 inch instead of just zigzagging them.

Here's the back of the dress with the little ruffled diaper cover peaking out.

The ensemble was complete with the addition of a sweet little headband.

I was lucky enough to find some cute red elastic with white polka dots at Joann's. The colors matched the dress perfectly.

A rolled rose was the perfect embellishment. There are tons of directions on the web if you just google rolled roses. I folded my material in half, pressed and then opened the strip and folded each edge into that center line I had just pressed and pressed again. Then I folded the strip in half, so I would not have any raw edges exposed in the rose. Instead of using hot glue I used thread to make a couple of stitches at each turn. Then I sewed the flower onto the headband where the ends had been stitched together. Too cute!
