Lake Harriet Minneapolis, MN

In most places kite flying is a spring-time activity, but evidently not in Minneapolis. There was a kite flying festival on Lake Harriet in the middle of January. Temps were in the teens, but then anything above zero is probably considered a heat wave in MN.  It was pretty cool seeing all of the color floating in the sky above the frozen lake.

Yeah, Minnesotans are nothing if not hardy. There was a good turn-out of people from all ages taking part in the activities:

including hot cider, hot chocolate, roasted marshmallows, horse drawn wagon rides and ice fishing for the kiddies.

And then as we were leaving...after having walked on the ice (they said the ice was 12-15 inches deep), we saw this sign. Oops!
