Add plumbing to my resume!!

It is spring and they turned on the irrigation water so we went through the stations. The first three functioned properly but when we got to the fourth station, we could hear water gushing out and discovered we had a broken pipe!!! Oh rats, a trip to the hardware store to find the right connections. I had a list so I could get everything. Wouldn't you know there were no salesmen on the floor and I was looking at all the bins of connections. Managed to find the 1 inch section and then just had to find a slip union, piece of pipe and two valves. Well finally got the plumbing parts I needed and proceeded home. Under the direct supervision of my husband, I scrambled down the hill, cut the broken section out and got the union, valve and pipe glued together with some terrible smelling stuff and fitted everything together. Then for the test. Turned the water on and the connection held!!! Hooray not bad for a 75 year old lady under the direction of a 75 old man. Grandmother

Finally, its finished!!!

After lots of strips, borders, machine quilting, putting the binding on, the quilt is finished. This took almost six months from start to finish. It is made from Moda's precut strips and then pieced. The top picture is the reverse side of the quilt. I had some strips left over and decided to put them on the back. Good winter project. Looking forward to Spring. Grandmother

A Stroll Through the Garden

Some signs of spring are popping up. The tired, brown lawn is beginning to perk with green. The bulbs have braved frost and snow and still keep up their colorful glow. It won't be long before I am grumbling about yard chores, but right now I enjoy uncovering the fresh new leaves that are beginning to stretch and yawn. Some plants are just like kids on a school day and they are slow to awaken...still keeping their heads under the cover of mulch. But the lure of sunshine and warmth will soon encourage them to pop up and take a look around. Happy Easter! Mom

Wunder Plant

I am intrigued. I recently saw a goji plant in one of my plant catalogs and never having heard of it before I was curious. It seems that the berries from this plant are extremely high in antioxidants and touted to cure whatever ails you. If ever there was a wunder plant, this is it. It also seems to grow in just about any type of soil and in a variety of zones. Usually something that is this hardy and unchoosy turns out to be a noxious weed in a few years. So has anybody out there tasted a goji berry? Some sources say it tastes like a cross between a cranberry and a cherry. So what's that...a cherry that makes you pucker?? I just might have to get a plant and try it. Mom
