Riot on Broadway!!!

It doesn't take much to excite the people in our small town. At 6:30am a price war erupted between two gas stations on Broadway. Drivers could not believe their eyes!! The sign on the eastbound station read $1.77, minutes later the westbound station countered with $1.71. Cars screeched their brakes, did a u-turn and filled up. With their cell phones to their ears they alerted others to their good fortune. It didn't take long for lines of cars to block the street. Police officers had to be called out to direct traffic. By 9:30 the prices went back up to the regular prices. Oh what excitement for a few hours. Grandmother

Bighorn Adventure

This hawk was doing some fishing of its own. In its claws is a big fish! Click on the picture to enlarge it.

A nice river with big, big fish in it. I landed two in 3 hours of fishing and about wore my arm out!

Cottonwoods aren't one of my favorite trees, but the color on them was just fantastic.

They don't call it Big Sky country for nothing. There is no other sky like the one in MT!

Only two more weeks!!!!

Our small town on the Western Slope had another candidate visit and speak to a crowd of 10,000. Sarah Palin came in with a whirl wind, full of energy to address a packed house. There were Democrats, Republicans and Independents along with other interested people. All ages were represented, with many high school teens and young people wanting to see and hear what she had to say. This election year has been one to remember with candidates from both parties visiting and speaking. I am casting my vote early and have decided what issues and candidates I am giving my vote too. We will know the outcome in just two weeks. What an election year!!!! Grandmother

Tea and Truffles

I recently took a yoga class where we had tea and truffles and I never realized how yummy the pairing could be!  We had a Mayan chocolate-like tea, which smelled and tasted delicious.  Then we had a white tea paired with a cherry, Amaretto, white chocolate truffle.  Lastly we had a citrus dark chocolate truffle with a peppermint and chamomile tea.  It was amazing how perfectly the tea and truffles went together.

The tea we used was loose leaf and I learned a lot about the different varieties, which include oolong, black, green, white and red.  Oolong, black, green and white tea are all made from the same tree but they are oxidized for different lengths of time and have different levels of caffeine.  Only 1 percent of all the tea made in the world is white tea, so it is by far the rarest. It's only made from the best tea leaves.  Red tea is made from the Rooibos Tree which grows in South Africa.  There is a whole culture around tea and it's one of the most wonderful and relaxing experiences for me.  This winter when you curl up with a cup of hot tea, take a moment to savor the smell, feel the warmth on your face and relish the first sip!  Daughter.

Oh dear, dishpan hands

Its been a long time since I had to wash dishes by hand. The 20 year old dishwasher in our home gave up and it took two days to get a new one and then have it installed. Dish washing is not a chore I enjoy. Growing up my sister and I must have washed and dried dishes around 6570 days while we were living at home. My mother got a dish washer after both of us had left the house (I don't think washing and drying dishes was a chore she enjoyed). My first dish washer was a portable roll around type which had to be attached to the faucets in the sink. The drain hose looped over the side of the sink and the water drained into the sink. The biggest mess I ever cleaned up was when the hose fell to the floor. Didn't know that the machine took that much water. Well I have given up washing dishes by hand and massaged lotion into my red hands. Grandmother

Smell That?

I have been waiting all summer for this plant to bloom. Now that fall has arrived it finally got one blossom. Can you smell it???

Come closer and really smell. Delicious isn't it. This is my new favorite flower because anything that smells like chocolate has got to be good. That's right the aroma emanating from this flower is chocolate. That's why it is called the "chocolate flower" or in flowerese "berlandiera lyrata". Heavenly! Mom

Happy Birthday Grandson

To the little boy who wanted to know what an electrician was and why was he coming to our house and accepted the answer it was just a man who was going to make our house safe to the young man who grew up and earned a doctorate in chemical engineering, Happy Birthday!!!! To a little boy that almost cut his hand off with an ax to a young man who is remodeling his kitchen, Happy Birthday!!!! To a little boy who gave a lot of hugs and kisses to his Grandma to the young man who still gives hugs and kisses to an older Grandma, Happy Birthday!!! Lots of love, Grandmother

Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday to you!
Remembering the times I had to think to come up with an answer
for a question like "why is there a moon?"

Remembering the little boy who just had to try it,
like the time he tried scissor cutting...on his mother's drapes!

Here's to memories.
May there be many more!
Love, Mom

What, No Tooth Fairy?

I guess when you get older the tooth fairy doesn't visit you anymore. Yesterday I had a wisdom tooth pulled. It did not come out like the ones I remember, my Dad tying a string on the loose tooth and giving it a yank. After removing the tooth, I would take it and look it over and put it in a glass of water beside my bed. The tooth fairy took the tooth and left a quarter. Now in those days a quarter went a long ways. I spent 5 cents on an ice cream cone, 10 cents on a bag of different penny candies, 5 cents for the Sunday School offering and put 5 cents in my piggy bank. It seemed so easy but now days it is a major effort to get a tooth removed; waiting for an appointment, prepping for the removal, numbing the jaw before finally the dentist pops the tooth out. I paid for the removal and the tooth fairy didn't even show up. Grandmother
